music monday . week of 06252012 to 07022012 .

there’s so much new music coming out lately and not enough time to listen to them all! however, i have been obsessing over a few this past week . purity ring’s new album shrine will be released on july 24 . currently, “fineshrine” has me under a shadowy spell . my little sister introduced me to daughter’s 2011 ep the wild youth while on our ten-day hawaiian vacation . it wasn’t until i flew back home to realize they’ve released a new ep this year entitled his young heart . the lyrics to “landfill” leaves me in shambles, as well as “medicine” and “youth” . fiona apple’s the idler wheel… album is pretty great, full of emotion and tasteful instrumentation; however, i wish that she stuck to her old roots . maybe, for me, she could never outdo her 1999 album, when the pawn… but i digress .

my dearest instagram friend, michelle grenier (@michiesharine), and i have been emailing each other little mixes the past month . it’s crazy how our music tastes are so similar . she’s emailed me three delicious mixes for summer: clouds, moonlight, and sunshine (i’ll be posting a summer mix later today) . the song that stood out the most for me was “lighthouse” by patrick watson, a little gem in her clouds mix . the soft piano gently lifts you up and glides you across the sky, overlooking green pastures and emerald seas . if you’re a fan of the lovely and eccentric björk, then you should give ryat a listen . her vocals are very very similar to björk, it’s almost uncanny .
