If we have goals and dreams and we want to do our best, and if we love people and we don’t want to hurt them or lose them, we should feel pain when things go wrong. The point isn’t to live without any regrets, the point is to not hate ourselves for having them… We need to learn to love the flawed, imperfect things that we create, and to forgive ourselves for creating them. Regret doesn’t remind us that we did badly — it reminds us that we know we can do better.
today is my birthday . i’m now twenty-two years young .
my wonderful constant, katie, will be driving up from san diego to spend this magical birthday weekend with me . seeing she was the person who originally inspired me to start up a “101 goals” list, we’re going to spend the entire weekend checking off things from our lists . it’ll be marvelous .
every time i watch a plane fly overhead, i wonder if there’s a curious passenger looking out from their window at the same moment? likely . but is that passenger thinking of me? unlikely . we’re just complete strangers with overlapping paths . will our paths ever cross again? maybe . we carry on .
